I'M GOING TO JAPAN!

Yes, I repeat: I'M GOING TO JAPAN. A few posts back I mentioned that I applied for the JET Programme where you go to Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher for English. The process is really length and luckily I got an interview and waited for the results for about 2 months. Then on April 1st, I saw a brown envelope in the postbox and thought, "This is it. I bet this is it." and my thoughts were confirmed when I saw the official embassy stamp. It did cross my mind that it was april fool's day but for extra measure, the letter was dated 31st of March! It's so weird, I mean I kind of believe it but then there are moments where I think, "Oh my god I really am going!!" I won't be leaving until the end of July so for now, studying and exams are the focus. I was all over twitter about the news and I wanted to write about it here, well, 2 weeks ago but I didn't want to tack it on as an extra with an outfit post. As well as writing here, I'll be tweeting more frequently about what's going on in the next few months so follow me here if you wanna know more :)

So anyway, these photos are from the 'Experience Japan' festival that I went to yesterday. It was absolutely freezing but still good fun; there were dance performances, karate demonstrations, kimono & yukata dressing, calligraphy and lots of other things!  I also lined up for 25 minutes to get yakisoba but it was so worth it.

endgame

Thought I'd switch it up from the usual outfit posts and show my random experiments with the camera and playing around with editing! That doesn't mean I actually have any idea what I'm doing though. Also, I got such a kick out of bunnies on the second photo...I feel like they're a direct antithesis to my actual facial expressions.
I took these photos a little while after getting out of bed and they've made me realize that my eyes are so puffy in the morning 0-0

p.s. I finally finished and submitted an essay on Beckett's play 'Endgame', hence the title (yay for informed post titles!)

HELLO 2015.

Happy New Year!! Now, one could say I'm a little late but I prefer to think of it as prolonging the excitement (heh). As for me, my NYE night was pretty tame, just stayed in with the family. The 1st of January proceeded just like the 2014 days before it...studying. Literally, that has become the theme of all my posts here! Exams are next week so I'm feeling the pressure but of course, does that mean hardcore study sessions? Nope. It means stuffing myself with new years leftovers, reading manga till the birds sing in the morning, prolonging the hour where I'll have to sleep, start a new day, and study. I'm thinking that my new year's resolution should be to stop ranting...but then that wouldn't be any fun (well, for me). But on a less-about-me note, I hope you're all having a great start to the year!

where have I been [?]

I haven't disappeared off the face of the earth and I haven't forgotten about you all but what I have forgotten this past year is to keep up with my studies: I have one week to catch up with a semester's worth of material. (I'm seriously in some deep sh*t!!) I had two English assignments due on the same day and my friend and I submitted them with 6 MINUTES to spare before the deadline! I was so stressed that day.

I've missed posting so much and I'm super sorry! I also haven't forgotten about the giveaway but you'll have to bear with me for the rest of May! My exams start on the 19th right through to the 29th so I'm giving you all fair warning ;) but I hope you'll stick around. Wish me luck!

Hope you're all well,

sickness.

That's right I'm SICK - of life, college, friends and this blog. Heh just kidding; I was going to continue that 'joke' for awhile but I think I better just move on. I really am sick and have been bedridden since Sunday! Being sick obviously sucks but after the first horrible day (major migraine) it hasn't been too bad sitting at home, reading, having my siblings be nice to me and of course, watching Pokémon.

I thought it'd be much better to let you all know rather than just disappearing off for awhile. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get an ootd post up for a few days! There's also a ball event coming up on thursday which I'm super excited about; I'm trying my best not to look like a zombie after this death cold. Make sure to follow me on instagram (nasreenosman) to see pics :) They'll mostly be iphone pics so that ain't going to make the cut for the blog.

Hope you're all well and not having to sneeze all the time.

p.s. I love how you usually see that drink in sunny places but nope, I'm just gonna open that can of sunshine in my dimly-lit room and be all...germy.

FOAM

I actually got up to stuff at the weekend! My sister, her friend Tom and I decided to be all culturey and visit the museum and a photography exhibition.

On the Friday we went to the little photography exhibition. Being honest, a lot of the photos were crap and really obvious but there were a few standout ones. What made the day even better was pretending we were art critics as well as making up little/terrible stories for the work (I do appreciate good art, I swear!)

Saturday morning waiting for the bus! I'm wearing the same jacket and bag as Friday but I never took photos of the cute dress I wore :(

We made our way to the Museum of Decorative Arts and History in Dublin where, upon arrival, a really nice lady asked if we wanted to take part in a photography experiment. They had set up a camera secured in a box which you controlled with an iPad and app so that you don't have to ask strangers to take your photo, pretty smart I think. So, when asked if we wanted to do it, we decided to get a little quirky.

Afterwards, we headed to 'Foam', a really cool hipsterey yet flamboyant café. Just look at all those picture frames!

(M&S knit, bershka jeans, new look boots - new boots yay! river island hat  - old)

I had such a good time and next time we plan on heading to the museum of modern art which I think will be more interesting! That's all for now I guess, but you can find more casual and selfie photos from the day on my instagram (nasreenosman) :)

Help me procrastinate doing an assignment by letting me know what you got up to over the weekend!

Hope you're all well!

feels like we only go backwards

(forever 21 shirt)

Ever since getting my camera, I've been trying to experiment and naturally, that started with self-portraiture. It's weird how taking photos of yourself is so...fun; it's a combination of trying new things, self-expression and the satisfaction of getting the result you want BUT also, the failure spurs me on to keep taking more shots and try new effects. By no means are these amazing photos but just thought I'd share other things besides outfit posts and if I'm being totally honest, well, I haven't had a chance to take new photos. Tomorrow, I'm meeting my sis for a photo exhibition and museum trip on Saturday meaning I'll finally have a new location for a post so stay tuned!

Thanks for getting me to over 100+ fans on lookbook! I never used to use it so that's très cool but know what's not cool? Saying 'très cool'.

Hope you're all très cool (omg I can't stop)

Instagram 03/02 - 22/02

Why I decided to post this at 1:50 am is beyond me.

Pretty much sums up the month so far - healthy eating, college reading, gym, blogging, friends and...graveyards.

Follow me on instagram for more! (@nasreenosman) If you start to follow me after this, say hello!

lazy JANUARY

This photo kind of sums up what my week off has revolved around - bed and food. And lots of online anime.

Ok, this was basically me during January (exams) except I really never went to bed - if you've been following my blog for awhile you'll know that my sleeping pattern/body clock is royally screwed up and I stayed up till 6/7am most nights and when it came to exams I still wouldn't (and couldn't) sleep until 2/3am. I read SO many ibooks, all the free ones of course; I used to hate reading books on my iphone but reading crappy romance/YA books has been a guilty pleasure and a strange new habit. I almost need to read and complete a book in one night.  Actually, today, I woke up at 4.00pm because I started a new book at 3am the night before, after being out with some friends, and I finished it at 11am and slept until 4pm *sigh* what the heck is wrong with me? College starts Monday and I don't know how I'm going to sleep 'early' tonight.

I've also been doing some scrapbooking and putting up photos on my wall that I like or find inspirational. If you've any favourite publications that you'd recommend, let me know! I'll be posting photos when it's all done!

There's no denying it: I'm a real home body. I love my down time, chilling at home and doing the things I like to do. I'll admit, maybe I like being alone a little too much; of course, when I'm with friends I have a great time but when I'm at home, I enjoy it; it literally takes a lot of motivation to move my ass too.

I haven't done a post like this but more often, I want to incorporate personal posts; I always have things I want to write but I refrain from doing so, and I get too caught up in sticking to a niche.

Hope you're all well!

POST-EXAM PARTY

(zara pants - similar to ones here, urban outfitters coat, pull & bear top)

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders! I have a week off and I'm actually freeee; no lingering thoughts about studying, no guilty indulgences; I can do whatever I want right now. I make it sound like I'm going to go wild but really I've just been staying in bed and reading and just chilling till my hearts content.

I threw this outfit together before heading out to town - I bought a Yankee Candle in 'Black Cherry' and my god, it smells amazing.

To celebrate the end of exams and my friend Emma's birthday, I went out with the girls and I thought I'd share some photos here, enjoy!

The most fun part was actually when we got home and decided to take an obscene amount of photos! Also, I was delightfully not bothered to wear heels.

Hope you're all well,

JUMPSUIT

zara jumpsuit - similar, aldo shoes)

If there's one thing I've learn't since taking my own photos, it's that I've more artistic freedom. I have the freedom to create any mood I want - happy, nostalgic or indifferent, which I think suits this post. I've more freedom and confidence in expressions, poses, movements and angles. If you've ever tried to direct a friend/sibling to take your photos, it can be quite tedious, especially when you're trying to achieve an aesthetic. Before I thought I needed  to have the standard outfit posts but over the past year, I've been striving to develop my style and research the kind of photos I like. I want my clothes to exude my mood and my feelings instead of projecting what I think suits an outfit - I always feel fake if I do that. I feel like I'm writing in circles - am I making sense??

I jumped right out of bed and decided to take these photos, I was super tired and I think it explains my lack of ... enthusiasm? but as I said, let's go with indifferent. It was my first proper indoor shoot so I hope you like it! The weather's ultimately been crap but on the bright side I get to explore more ways of shooting posts!

I have to get back to studying now. Exam tomorrow, yay.
Hope you're all well!
