変な日・ a strange day

Winter means going out in public and leaving only your eyes visible to the crowd. God forbid you show your mouth. Of course, in this space I felt obliged to show at least more than 1-2 quarters of my face but truthfully, once I leave my apartment, the scarf goes up and the hat comes down. It's all eye-action from there on out.

On another note, today was a really weird day. From getting the location of a taiko performance wrong to having a local man stare at my friend and I from across the street to this said friend losing her wallet and us having to go to the police box with her landlord and him wanting to see where my apartment is to buying shoes and getting parfaits at a cafe, today was a really weird day.

p.s. the old man was super cute and we waved at each other and nodded. ><

cut-out heart

I'm not really one for polka-dot dresses or heart-shaped cut-outs but after scouring through town with my sister trying to find a suitable interview outfit, we settled on this dress. I wore it with a blazer, pointy flats and nice little leather bag. I wanted to recreate the outfit but I didn't have the blazer or more accurately, I gave it back to my sister (hehe); and so I decided just to dress it down.
Anyway, February is almost upon us and that means college starts again (... all too soon).

And in case you were wondering, the interview went pretty well; I came out feeling satisfied with my answers (although a few questions stumped me) but not gonna get my hopes up too high just in case. Fingers crossed!

after dark

Guys, I have an interview tomorrow for the JET programme - where you go to Japan for a year and work as an ALT (assistant language teacher). I've read so many differing opinions on the interview process, how they purposely try to throw you off, good cop bad cop style questions and overall, you leave feeling uncertain! I'm just gonna try my best to stay calm and enthusiastic despite whatever reactions they may or may not give. But just imagine me cracking a small joke only to find stony faces staring back at me. I'm sure they're lovely people though so just. gotta. stay. calm. Wish me luck!

On another note, my latest 'accomplishment' is reading After Dark by Haruki Murakami in 4 hours - it was that good! I really recommend it; it's different so definitely don't expect some huge action or climax. It has a subtle yet strong strength.
P.S. you might be happy to know that I've finally posted a song that's actually in English.

shadows

If you're following me on twitter, then you've probably witnessed my obscene ups and downs as regards exams! But that's all over and done with *dusts hands together*. It's weird, I didn't know what to do with myself today! But the day right after exams I was a cleaning goddess and spent all day tidying, cleaning, and dusting my room. The result: a beautiful, spotless room/haven.

Oh and as for this outfit, I've been unashamedly living out of these leggings and my newly acquired large sweatshirt is a godsend.

ERASE

So, that essay I was talking about in this post? Well, it's finished and now I've fallen into a slump of sleeping in, skipping lectures and constant lazy hair days. But tomorrow's Monday which means a fresh start! And speaking of fresh starts, my closet is in desperate need of one. What were once my favourite sweaters and tees are now dull and living a lonely existence on the upper clothes rack. They're in perfect condition though which makes me think I could sell them? You know, give them a better home. It's what they deserve.

wasteland

2,500 word essay due on Wednesday, currently on 700 and it looks like it's going to stay that way for the night. If you've read 'The Waste Land' by T. S. Eliot you will literally understand the nightmare that is trying to write an essay on it because the whole time you're just screaming internally, 'there's too much going on!!'. But bravo Eliot because the poem also makes you think 'holy crap' in the most wow-this-guy-can-write-I-suck kind of way.

In case you didn't notice, I did indeed cut these culottes myself from some Forever 21 pants, kinda crappy job but its all good!

안녕하세요! / Lonely

I should just rename my blog to "Once again, I'm sorry I haven't posted in ages, I've been super busy with college and the weather's being a b*tch". I'll admit that when it's been more than a week and I fall out of the blogging routine, I get a little lazy (a lot lazy). But seriously, being in my last year of college is already so stressful (so many cases in Law, so many readings in English - to which everyone will say 'duh'). On another note, 안녕하세요! Hehe, yes that's Korean and since the start of October I've been diligently learning it (a.k.a. procrastinating) simply because I found this Kpop band I like (B1A4), then my sis said there was an infographic to learn the Korean alphabet in 15mins (yes, really) and so I did, but it felt wrong to end it there!

Also, at the end of this post is my absolute favourite song at the moment by B1A4 (I love CNU)...just give it a try, 감사합니다!

Oh my god, I almost forgot to mention that on my birthday I had a major haircut! I now have an undercut on the sides and back of my head; I wasn't planning on it but the hairdresser offered and I happily accepted - I like change.

p.s. if you're a Korean speaker looking for an English buddy, hit me up or any Koreans/Korean-learners email me :)

Back to School

Let me rephrase: back to waking up at 6:30, not getting up till 7, commuting, lectures, tears, assignments, exams...and more tears - metaphorical tears but hey, who knows what the year holds? But yes, college started back up today and I am not exaggerating when I say I feel and felt no desire to be back. I'd also usually put a bit more effort into my overall look but I was perfectly happy in this outfit - simple and comfy. Ahh I'm definitely not ready to throw myself into the books! So many mixed feelings but that's another days post. The best thing about being back? I get to wear this bag that my stepmom bought me as an early birthday present. It's the perfect size for notebooks and my laptop aaaand I'm also just a sucker for satchels in general. By the way, my birthday's on Thursday which means I'll be expecting some chocolate and cards in the post ;)

p.s. I'm loving my new Nike Free Runs! I unapologetically splurged almost an entire week's paycheck on them. It's comfy shoe heaven. Worth. Every. Penny.

Oh, sidenote: the blog URL no longer has .blogspot.com as a domain - it's now just www.lazyobsession.com :)

Crash and Restore

You know what's worse than having your laptop crash while you're in the middle of work? Having your laptop crash and being forced to restore factory settings...albeit before you've had a chance to back-up anything. To state the obvious, that's exactly what happened to me. All my music, photos, college work, inspiration pictures, photography and random tidbits are all GONE. I've had a few different things stored on dropbox and google drive so that's some consolation but there's no hiding the fact that I spent the whole day (ok, at least 7+ hours) re-downloading all my music; luckily my desperate plea was answered by my lovely big sis who sent me huge album bundles. Is it weird that I'm super sulky over the fact that my itunes play count has been resetted? I don't know about you but I take pride in the 300+ times I've played 'Sure Thing' (Miguel Cover) by Trails and Ways.

On a fashion-related note, I'm really on a roll with food-baby friendly clothes which is just perfect for winter.

GRANDPA KNITS + COME SAY HI!

Sorry about the fuzziness in the pics! Next time I'll make sure it's actually focused before I commence the posing.

When you don't have a bag or clutch to hold, hold a Starbucks cup! When in doubt, always Starbucks it. Can we make that into a verb please!? Just imagine, 'Ugh I'm so stressed' 'Starbucks it' or 'Where should we get coffee?' 'Let's Starbucks it'. I'm not sure if the more I say it, it gets lamer or cooler.

Enough rambling, here's a quick casual post! I couldn't help but think this is something our grandpas would wear. The lapels and the double-breasted buttons is too menswear-inspired to be ignored; also, the brown colour makes me think it so.

Right now, I'm in Dublin because I'll be helping out at the JOANNE HYNES pop up shop/sample sale - I couldn't leave you all without a post though, what would your Friday be like without it!?
If you've been following my blog for a little bit then you'll know I did an internship with her! If you're around, pop into Tropical Popical on 28 South William Street today before 8pm and on Saturday from 10-6pm. I'll be there on Saturday! Come say hi and there will be great pieces to buy!

Hope you're all well!

LADY ARABELLA

Why Lady Arabella? Well, just because. Nah, I kid! In my English seminars we've been studying race, gender and female sexuality from two Irish novels - Carmilla by Le Fanu and The Lair of the White Worm by Bram Stoker. In the latter there is a character called Lady Arabella; she is beautiful, wears dazzling white clothes and is of high birth but she is also mysterious, cold and distant. She possesses an evil power that gives her a sinister quality. The relevance of this is that I couldn't help but think of her when putting together this outfit. I wanted something that looked dark and eerie but chic of course and still  'me'. Despite Lady Arabella wearing all white, I went with black! I'm also in love with my new Topshop necklace; It has an air of regality and power. I threw on a lot of rings and earrings (I haven't worn earrings in about a year or two!) to add to the aristocratic side.

This outfit isn't over-complicated and doesn't feature any amazing statement pieces but I really enjoyed doing this post! There's something about playing a character through your clothes that's intriguing. I guess that's where actors come in though! Just feeling like I was embodying her was exciting! On the other hand, I really do like a dark, soft grunge look. I also have a soft spot for a deep, dark berry lip!

I would highly recommend both books for Gothic lovers and non-Gothic lovers too (just to be fair, yanno).
Hope you liked this post and that you're all doing well!

GOLDEN BROWN LEAVES

If you're following me on twitter then you'll know that I found the missing piece of my tripod *celebratory dance* Let me tell you that after spending the last two days taking my own photos, I really appreciate having someone to help me. I did not realize how difficult it would be. I'm not complaining though, I actually had a lot of fun! Definitely getting the hang of it.

Look at all the pretty leaves! Even though we're into the winter months now, we're still experiencing really nice autumnal weather. I love the chill, crisp quality the air has but some days it's harsh and you really regret not wearing tights under those jeans. Did I mention that I'm really sick of jeans? Well, I am somewhat. For cold weather I much prefer wearing woolly tights with skirts and dresses or funky leggings. Ok, weather and clothes rambly tidbit over!

Hope you're all doing well!

SUSPENDED

Another post AND on time!? What is this madness!? I woke up extra early before college to snap some photos of my outfit (that's determination, I love my sleep). This meant, of course, that I was confined to the space of my room, which is serving me surprisingly well, but I guess that's up to you to decide. Because I was limited with time, I decided to take some photos after college, hence, the difference in lighting! Take a look below and tell me which you'd prefer to see on the blog!
Also, tripods are tricky. Especially old ones but c'est la vie, hope you like them.

Aesthetically, I prefer the pinkish glow of the second batch of photos but in terms of showing clearly an outfit, the first may be more suitable. But I think it's rather boring (the guitar is placed there in the hopes of spicing things up). I'm going to be trying out a lot of different angles in different rooms and will try select the one! If you have any tips for indoor shooting, send them my way! (email if you want!)

It would help loads if you left me a comment saying which style of photo you prefer so I know for the future :)
A little bit to say about the outfit, I originally wore a crisp white shirt but I looked way too proper especially when I planned to slug away hours at the library so I really chilled it down with this 3/4 length tee from Hollister; an overall easy, comfy fall outfit.

Anyway, hope you're all doing well! I have no college tomorrow...3 day weekend whaddup!!

ombré knits

Just a quick post to saw hey and no, I haven't disappeared. Despite the simplicity of these photos, my GOD, it was so hard to set up the little shoot in my room. I'm missing the most important part for my tripod so I had to set it up on top of my lamp on a bedside table with other nonsense and once I took the photos and was getting ready to upload them, they were corrupted!!! I was going to give up but then I thought 'no you lazy shit, go do it again' and voila, here they are. This was my first time shooting indoor and lighting was crappy but I hope you like it; a full outfit post will be coming soon!

Something I love about fall/winter is that you can wear a funky knit and instantly look kawaii (cute) without much effort. This one is pretty snazzy in that it has an ombré effect; I love it but I originally wanted it in blue :( I really want to get a big, cream cable knit sweater that'll cover my bum more when I wear leggings so if you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear!

SIDENOTE! For awhile now, I've been really getting into beauty and skincare and really spending the time (and money!) to grow a nice collection. I must say, it's pretty fun and satisfying. So, I'd love to share of my favourites or make-up routines on here. Style outfits will still be the forefront of the blog but will feature just a few snaps of current lipsticks/fall looks/new products etc. If you think you'd like to see that, be sure to let me know in the comments :)

p.s. I wanted to do scribbling on these pictures, squiggly lines and such...anyone know any good programs for that? The computer equivalent of 'A beautiful mess' app!

Hope you're all well!

plaid skirt and autumn leaves

HELLO. It's been inexcusably long since I last posted here, and I'm super excited to be writing this blog post. Over the last few months, I've been letting my sis use the camera, I'm back at college and it's been a mixture of laziness and untimeliness, but let's just blame this all on her. Autumn/Fall is my favourite season evaaaa! there's something about wearing just a knit jumper over a dress with cute scarves that's utterly satisfying. Of course, now it's getting colder and coats are becoming my best friend, but with the amount of layering options one has, I don't see any reason (sartorial that is!) to hate this season. Starbucks' festive favourites and crisy, beautifully-coloured leaves are also a bonus.

PLAID. As much as I love watching runway shows and seeing trends come alive, I'm not one to jump on every trend bandwagon; I'm more selective. Currently obsessing over plaid (or tartan inspired plaid, if you like), I fell in love with this Zara skirt immediately and placed an order for it. Little side note, I'm becoming WAY too comfortable shopping online and my bank account balance is withering away.

(Apologies for the ruffled up skirt) This NASTY GAL jacket is my first ever purchase from a US store and I was very apprehensive about buying such an essential item without even trying it on. Nevertheless, I went ahead with it, if you didn't notice, and I lurrrve it. Initially I was so disappointed thinking that it didn't have pockets but my dad showed me that it was stitiched together for shipping. I ripped away and there you had it: pockets. It was a very joyful moment for me.

So, what are your favorite things about fall?? (we're technically in the winter months but the weathers still catching up). If you say you like pumpkin spice lattes, over sized knits, and boots, well then, I like you. If you don't, I still like you (but you must be crazy).
The sun is starting to set around 4.30pm and I get back from college late, so it's going to be a challenge posting but I hope to get a tripod soon enough and all will be good but until then, consider yourself warned (unfortunately).

Hope you're all doing well!
